Berlin, 27 March 2017 – Tomorrow, the opening of WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL 2017 will take place at the Marshall Haus. At a festive ceremony at 10 a.m. Permanent Secretary at the BMUB Gunther Adler will open the four-day fair and congress. Among the speakers will be Permanent Secretary at the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises Christian Rickerts, and Deputy Energy Minister of Iran Rahim Meidani. Dr. Fritz Holzwarth of Verein Wasser Berlin e.V. will host the event.
This will be followed by the awards ceremony of the German Society for Trenchless Technology (GSTT) which will be presented by Prof. Jens Hölterhoff, chairman of the board of GSTT e.V. At 11 a.m. the official opening tour of the trade fair with Permanent Secretary Adler will commence at the Marshall Haus.
Leading international figures
Water has become an increasingly political and global issue, a fact that is reflected by the large number of international exhibitors (25 per cent) attending and the many senior political figures from Germany and abroad. Numerous delegations will also be present, including from Costa Rica, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Croatia, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Lebanon, Iran, Hungary, Russia, China, Japan and Korea.
Iran Conference on 28 March
Venue: Future Forum, Hall 3.2, Berlin Exhibition Grounds
Time: 2 – 5.30 p.m.
At the Iran Conference at the Future Forum in Hall 3.2 experts will outline the current market situation, the opportunities and risks in Iran, and discuss the business options available to German companies and institutions. Delegations representing politics and industry are also expected to attend. Dirk Hoffmann, CFO of Messe Berlin GmbH, and Christine von Lonski, managing director of the German Water Partnership, will each hold a welcome address. Other speakers will include H.E. Ali Majedi, ambassador to Germany of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Shahrooz Mohajeri, managing director of inter 3 GmbH, and H.E. Rahim Meidani, Deputy Energy Minister of Iran. Afterwards, Iranian and German representatives of politics and industry will discuss ’successful cooperation between Germany and Iran’.
Senate reception + Berlin Water Night on 28 March
Venue: Foyer, south entrance, Berlin Exhibition Grounds
Time: 7 – 10 p.m.
Around 200 senior figures representing industry, politics and the diplomatic services in Germany and abroad are expected to attend the Berlin Water Night for VIPs. Small meetings in an informal atmosphere will provide an opportunity to exchange views with exhibitors on current industry issues and possible solutions. Among those attending will be Ramona Pop, head of the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises. Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH, will welcome the guests. Other speakers will include Jörg Simon, chairman of the board of Berliner Wasserbetriebe, and Andrea Joras, managing director of Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie.
EU Western Balkan Cooperation Forum on 29 March
Venue: Innovation Forum, Hall 2.2, Stand 416
Time: 3 – 6 p.m.
Together with high-ranking experts from Germany and the Western Balkans, Elizabeta Kos, assistant minister in the Croatian Ministry of the Environment, will explore the potential for future joint ventures between Germany and the Western Balkan region. A presentation will be given of the water industry situation and the current needs of Croatia and its neighbouring countries. Closer cooperation between companies from Germany and southern Europe will aim to improve prospects in the region.
BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues on 30 March
Venue: Experts Forum, Hall 4.2
Time: 9.30 – 2 p.m.
The BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues will place the spotlight on efficient wastewater management. Taking its inspiration from the World Water Day 2017, the event bears the slogan of 'Wastewater – the Untapped Resource'. Addressing the topic will be Permanent Secretary at the BMUB Gunther Adler and Prof. Dr. Stefan Uhlenbrook, coordinator of the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme, who will present the World Water Development Report 2017.
The event is organised by the German Water Partnership and co-sponsored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, and Messe Berlin.
Tour of the trade fair with Permanent Secretary Rickerts on 30 March
Venue: Blue Planet Experts Forum, Halle 4.2
Time: 10 a.m.
On his tour of the fair Permanent Secretary at the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises Christian Rickerts will visit WASsERLEBEN, the interactive show for the public, as well as numerous companies from the region, including the combined display of Berlin/Brandenburg, Berliner Wasserbetriebe and Berliner Leitungsbauer at the ’Berliner Platz’.
